Hello – my name is A.J., and I provide a warm, welcoming counselling service - a safe space where your voice is heard and believed. You might need to talk about relationships, loss, identity, mental health, abuse, or your hopes for life - a regular time to get to know all of who you are.

How does therapy work? When a trustworthy person ‘gets you’ and shows this, your mind adapts so you feel ready to deal with difficult days. This helps you reconnect with your world - whether that's a life already known, or a life that's been in the shadows. I will listen to you talking about your worries, but I'll also help you get to know the Self (that's you!) who is able to get through those worries.

My therapy is for clients aged 18+, and is provided online via Zoom. It occurs on weekday evenings. Sessions are confidential, and at your pace. AJ Quarmby Counselling is a trauma-informed setting.

Contact me to arrange a free initial call, to check I'm the right counsellor for you. I’ll put you at your ease, help you consider your choices, and guide you safely through the process.

My Training

2002: Counselling Skills in the Development of Learning

2013: BACP Counselling Accreditation

I have completed other short courses in trauma-informed practice, LGBTQI+ awareness, bereavement, suicide, and child sexual exploitation. Please see the qualifications page for more info.

My Experience

I have worked in a domestic abuse service, where I counselled people with Complex PTSD and delivered psychoeducational courses. I've been a counsellor in primary and secondary schools, a bereavement charity and an autistic adults' college, as well as co-ordinating a counselling network. I've always offered a warm welcome to clients with diverse orientations, identities and ways of talking.

A Triple Focus

I explore how past experiences affect or transform you, with in-depth person-centred therapy.

I'm trained to recognise how mind and body respond to trauma – so I can help adults speak about pain they have held within, perhaps for years.

I listen in such a way that anyone can feel free to talk about anything – but also feel safe enough to be free.
